By far my most favorite project to date, Leonem Caeruleum Magazine was yet another assignment in my Publication Design Course. Tasked with creating and solidifying a brand through a medium of publication, I obviously used this to my advantage by building a magazine around my favorite soccer team, Chelsea Football Club.. This project really means a lot to me, as I've established an emotional connection with this team throughout my childhood and into adulthood, a feeling many fans will most likely share with me.
project overview
For this project you are tasked with designing a brand new life style magazine around a new brand that will be built and solidified throughout the process. You will work on developing spread layouts for five different stories that must be different in overall character count and spread length. The brand and overall look and feel of the magazine from the footer to header to type treatment and color schemes as well as photo/illustration usage will all be built from the ground up. Solidifying the brand will be achieved as you work
out your solutions for the spreads and allow for these designs to be broken down and strengthened. You are also asked to developed three versions of the cover for the featured story. The image will be different but everything else must remain intact. Type treatment as well as overall tone and message must be a unified look in the end. HOWEVER, design each spread to the content. Each article must be executed that makes sense to the material you are working with. Do not create cookie cutter templates that simply copy and paste your text into. Because you have an open canvas for look of this project, allow yourself to move around in the designs. Work out ideas for the type treatment logo, move onto the table of contents, work out a couple ideas for the articles and slowly work your way through progressing the layouts.

Leonem Caeruleum means blue lion in latin, which is the mascot for Chelsea. The magazine consists of recent news on the squad like injury updates, team news, big matches coming up, and much more. Complete with a table of contents and gallery, this is definitely one of my biggest projects yet. I was glad to be doing it on a topic that has meant so much to me for so long.
